What is a Tapa?
Just a quaint little story an old man once told me:
The name tapas stems from the Spanish word 'tapa' meaning to cover.
The first 'tapa' was a slice of ham served on top of a glass of
wins so not to let the flies in. Naturally the ham was then eaten.
Barkeepers discovered the saltiness of the ham enhanced the beverage
sales, and a tradition was born. Tapas bars are a style of eating
in Spain. People started their evening out partaking of wine and
a small morsel of food. They continued down the street visiting
each bar and trying the interesting delicacies each bar had to offer.
The proper way to enjoy is an accompaniment to your drink. So, drink
and enjoy because those morsels you graze on while you drink are
merely a fuel for the conversational fire. Enjoy!
